Direct Coffee

Good coffee, better childhood. Two-and-a-half billion: That’s how many cups of coffee the world drinks every day. So there’s a lot of potential there for doing some social good !

Direct Coffee imports coffee directly from smallholder farmers in western Ethiopia. Part of the earnings is ploughed back into social projects for the growers’ children. Marie and Michael Tuil gave up their previous jobs to found the socially minded start-up Direct Coffee. The products range from beans to ground coffee and Nespresso-compatible capsules that are biodegradable. Cancellable subscriptions can be taken out online, shipping is free within Switzerland and the products are only slightly more expensive than other coffee brands. On the website buyers can even choose what projects they would like to support.
